The LA Galaxy confirmed this morning that forward Robbie Keane is going on a short-term loan to Aston Villa. He is already in England, as he has been training with his former club Tottenham Hotspur, but he's moved to Birmingham to join Villa. He will be available for as many as eight games between English Premier League games and FA Cup matches, before he rejoins the Galaxy for their CONCACAF Champions League match against Toronto FC March 7.

Keane will have a very busy offseason, and as long as he doesn't get injured while on loan like his Galaxy teammate Omar Gonzalez, should be in excellent shape to start the CCL and MLS seasons. The short-term loan should also give him a chance to redeem himself in the English Premier League after playing for West Ham United last year when they were relegated. Aston Villa has struggled as well this season, and hopefully the arrangement is mutually beneficial.

Keane's short-term loan follows similar ones for Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan to Everton, and Thierry Henry to Arsenal.

Papiss Demba Cisse may be unable to make his debut for new club Newcastle against Blackburn on Wednesday despite Senegal's early exit from the African Cup of Nations.

Cisse completed his £10 million move from Freiburg earlier this month, but has yet to appear for his new club because of his participation in the ongoing tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

However Senegal’s unexpected exit from the tournament means both Cisse and fellow Toon striker Demba Ba will return to the North East earlier than expected, prompting speculation both could be inline for a return in time for the game at Ewood Park.

However manager Alan Pardew has admitted both players may not return to the line up on Wednesday, because of Senegal’s plans now they have exited the tournament.

"Just because Senegal are going home doesn't necessarily mean they'll be playing for us next week," Pardew told reporters. “It's not as simple as that and I couldn't really say what their chances are.”

"We have to contact Senegal about their plans, because they might want to fly back together as a squad, but we will be pushing to get them back to Newcastle."

Newcastle have performed well in the absence of top-scorer Ba in particular and currently occupy a top six spot, but suffered a humbling 5-2 defeat against Fulham last week having taken a 1-0 lead.

While Pardew described their early return to the Sports Direct Arena as a ‘big bonus’, the former West Ham boss admitted he was worried about the psychological damage they may have suffered because of their role in Senegal’s failed campaign.

I hope they're not too damaged because, considering Senegal's ranking, they'll be disappointed by the two results so far," said Pardew.

"And they still have one game to go, which will be difficult with them already being out.

"But the plus side is that they are heading back here and they will definitely be involved for the Aston Villa game on Sunday week and that is a big bonus for us."

Of more immediate concern for Pardew is his side’s F.A Cup fourth round tie against Brighton on Saturday, a game that captain Fabricio Coloccini looks set to miss with a groin injury.

"We'll just have to wait and see, but at this stage he's a doubt," Pardew commented.

Sam Allardyce saw his West Ham side power to within a point of the automatic promotion places with victory over Peterborough - and then had to defend his tactics.

Two goals in the space of six second-half minutes from Ricardo Vaz Te and Gary O'Neil settled this contest as the Hammers closed in on promotion rivals Reading ahead of a mouth-watering Saturday meeting between the two teams.

But the 2-0 win was marred by negative chants about Allardyce's perceived preferred direct style of play which rung out from the visiting supporters. He said: "The perception of some people is deluded as the facts about my teams clearly speak for themselves."

Copyright (c) PA Sport 2012, All Rights Reserved.

Chelsea have denied claims owner Roman Abramovich held 'showdown' talks with manager Andre Villas-Boas before the club's breathtaking 3-3 draw with Manchester United.

The Blues confirmed Abramovich spoke to Villas-Boas during a visit to the club's training ground on Saturday before watching Sunday's Barclays Premier League game at Stamford Bridge. But they insist the Russian billionaire is fully behind the 34-year-old's project, following a report he had become frustrated with results under the Portuguese.

A spokesman said: "Roman likes to get down to Cobham and watch training whenever he can. He was able to visit on Saturday and he and Andre had a good chat after the training session, which is normal."

Copyright (c) PA Sport 2012, All Rights Reserved.

Gemma Atkinson will be joining hands with UNICEF and Manchester United at this months United for UNICEF dinner. How far will joining hands go in the after party is not the point here. ManUtd.com did an interview with Marcus Bents ex about the event where she admitted that all of a sudden she and most of her family are in fact United fans.

She, personally, had a childhood crush on Ryan Giggs who still remains to be her favorite player and also thinks that United always performs better after Christmas and that the Red Devils need to keep things tight at the back to win more trophies.

Heres the interview in detail:

Why United?I??ve always been a big fan, most of my family are in fact, particularly my step-dad Peter. He??s followed the team all his life and his idol is Eric Cantona. He actually looks just like Eric when he takes his glasses off which he is quite smug about!

How often do you get to Old Trafford?I try to get to as many games as possible but it depends where I am work wise. If I can??t make it I always make sure I??m near a TV whenever we??re playing though. I??m at the game today and hopefully we can get another win under our belts to keep the pressure on Chelsea.

Who??s your favourite Red?I??ve always been a big fan of Ryan Giggs. It??s amazing how he has continued to perform so well for such a long time and is still one of our most influential players. He??s not only a great role model for young footballers out there, he??s a brilliant example to all the other players.

As well as watching football, we hear you play a bit too??[Smiles] Well I played in a celebrity tournament with the Hollyoaks team a few years ago and we won! My friend Mikyla Dodd, who played Chloe, went in net for us and she was absolutely brilliant.

Tell us about your involvement with the United for UNICEF dinner?I was down at Old Trafford last month to lend my support to the event ?C UNICEF is such a brilliant charity to work with and I??m a big supporter of the work they do for child poverty. The gala dinner is always a cracking night because there are so many famous faces coming together for an amazing cause. The fact that Sir Alex and the players will be there is brilliant and hopefully we can raise lots of money on the night.

And finally, are you confident about United??s chances of silverware this season? There have been a few ups and downs so far, but we do always get better after Christmas. We have the best manager around and some great players, and if we can get back to playing the way we know we can when we really go at teams and keep things tight at the back, we??ve got a great chance of winning more trophies.

Guus Hiddink has talked up a return to English football with Chelsea after admitting he's unlikely to stay on as Turkey boss after failure to qualify for Euro 2012 following their play-off defeat to Croatia

With a three-goal deficit from the first leg, Hiddink's men toiled in Zagreb, eventually playing out a goalless draw.

But while the 65-year-old isn't expected to retain his role with the Turkish national team, he maintains he's not looking to retire.

"This could be my last game as Turkey's coach," he said.

"I am happy about young players' performances. Euro 2012 could have been a great experience for them ... I don't have any regrets about my Turkey experience.

"I worked for the future of Turkey but I think this is my last match with this team - there is a high probability of that."

"I'm not ready to retire," he added.

"I like to be involved with a team on a daily basis, but maybe I am ready to step out of the limelight a little bit, away from the cameras.

"Hopefully I will still be involved but perhaps it will be as an adviser or a consultant."

Hiddink's previous international successes had seen him take Netherlands, Australia and Russia to major tournaments over the last 15 years, but failure to qualify for the World Cup with the Russians in 2010 coupled with this latest failure with Turkey may force the boss into a return to a club role.

His most recent club position came with Chelsea in 2009, where he won the FA Cup after taking over mid-season from Brazilian coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, a period that the Dutch boss still holds in great regard.

"I've not made up my mind about the future yet," he added.

"I'm going to take some time off and then we will see what happens, but I had a wonderful time in England.

"It was great at Chelsea, a terrific time, but that doesn't mean I am ready to start tomorrow. I need some time to reflect."
